Welcome

FROM THE CHAIRMAN

Thank you for visiting our website. I will thank you even more if you visit our club, especially as we are entering an exciting new phase in moving to a new venue: Strutts Community Centre in Belper.

Over 40 years, Derby City Photographic has also built up a reputation as a friendly club where prospective members are given a warm welcome. They also come into a healthy fold of eager-to-learn beginners right through to experienced practitioners who both inspire and help others.

We also have an enviable reputation for the quality of our lectures, and encourage the spirit of competition through monthly themed contests in both digital and print.

We have a flourishing photo library, too – over 100 books.

Derby City PC is also one of the 40-plus members of the North & East Midlands Photographic Federation (N&EMPF) which is itself affiliated to the Photographic Alliance of Great Britain (PAGB).

LOIS WEBB CPAGB presents SURREALISM – MORE THAN A COMPOSITE

This talk was inspired by a competition at Lois’ club Nottingham Outlaws on the theme of Surrealism. ‘I had plenty of experience in creating composite images’ recalls Lois, ‘but for me this theme took composites to another level.’ This presentation will reveal the techniques Lois uses and also take us through the apps and tools which may inspire us to create our own composites.

Tuesday 5th May

BOB BRIND-SURCH FRPS presents WILD LENS

A professional photographer and zoologist for 50 years, Bob uses this talk to celebrate wildlife by showing us some of the images that can be taken on many of the workshops and safaris he runs for amateur photographers. He will lay bare the challenges of wildlife photography and dispel a few myths along the way, showing us, for example, that you don’t need to sit in a hide all day. Bob will also take us on a virtual safari to some of his favourite spots in East Africa.
