Competitions 2010
There will be five monthly Digital Projected Image (DPI) competitions and five monthly Print competitions.  “Present
a Panel” will be one of the five monthly competitions in each category. Monthly DPI and Print competitions will be
held on separate nights.
In addition there will be one Annual DPI competition and one Annual Print Competition. The Annual DPI and Print
competitions will be held on a separate nights, see the 2010 programme and this website for dates.
There will be no separate Monochrome category in the Annual Competitions.
The Awards
Monthly competitions.
Each monthly competition may have up to a max of 2 images submitted. Each image is scored out of 20 thus giving
a score out of 40. In the case of the “Present a Panel” competition 4 images are required and will be scored out of
20 as a single panel. This score is then doubled to keep it in proportion to the other scores.
The 4 highest scores from all the monthly competitions will be recorded (i.e. the lowest monthly score for DPI and
prints will be dropped) and the photographer with the highest aggregated score at the end of the year. This will
determine the Best Print Photographer 2010 and Best DPI Photographer 2010. A trophy will be awarded to the two
winners.
The Annual Competitions
The Annual Print and Annual DPI Competitions will not be scored but will require the judge to declare one outright
winning image by elimination in each competition. Up to a max of 3 images may be entered in the Annual
competitions. Images used before in monthly competitions may be used again in the annual competitions. New
Images shown for the first time in an Annual competition are eligible to be used again in a monthly competition.
A trophy will be presented to the winner in each category.
The Joe Vowles Memorial Trophy
The monthly scores from both Prints and DPI are added together after the 2 lowest monthly scores from all ten
monthly competitions have been deducted.
The member then having the highest total score will be awarded the Joe Vowles Memorial Trophy to hold for one
year.
The late Joe Vowles was a founding member of the Derby City Photographic Club and his widow donated the Joe
Vowles Trophy to the club in his memory.
