Welcome

FROM THE CHAIRMAN

From our modest beginnings, we have established Derby City as a club that out of the 50- plus members of N&EMPF(North & East Midlands Photographic Federation), has long been in the top six at the annual N&EMP Exhibition and, for even longer, has an enviable reputation for the quality of its lectures. We also encourage the spirit of competition through monthly themed contests in both digital and print.

Over 40 years, Derby City has also built up a reputation as a friendly club where prospective members are given a warm welcome. They also come into a healthy fold of eager-to-learn beginners right through to experienced practitioners who both inspire and help others.

We have always had the advantage over other clubs in meeting all year round, and no other club in the region has such a flourishing photo library – over 150 books - or a more professional, up-to-date website. We also believe that our venue is one of the finest in the region, a spacious banqueting suite offering comfort, conviviality and a licensed bar where you can buy your Chairman a drink.

ALEX HYDE - CLOSE ENCOUNTERS

Alex is a professional natural history photographer based in the Peak District who shows us why he 'delights in revealing tiny details of subjects that would be missed by the naked eye'. Many of Alex's pictures are captures of moving subjects smaller than a grain of rice, requiring skill, specialised equipment and patience.
