Welcome

FROM THE CHAIRMAN

From our modest beginnings, we have established Derby City as a club that out of the 50- plus members of N&EMPF(North & East Midlands Photographic Federation), has long been in the top six at the annual N&EMP Exhibition and, for even longer, has an enviable reputation for the quality of its lectures. We also encourage the spirit of competition through monthly themed contests in both digital and print.

Over 40 years, Derby City has also built up a reputation as a friendly club where prospective members are given a warm welcome. They also come into a healthy fold of eager-to-learn beginners right through to experienced practitioners who both inspire and help others.

We have always had the advantage over other clubs in meeting all year round, and no other club in the region has such a flourishing photo library – over 150 books - or a more professional, up-to-date website. We also believe that our venue is one of the finest in the region, a spacious banqueting suite offering comfort, conviviality and a licensed bar where you can buy your Chairman a drink.

Zoom meeting - Monday 7th December

JIM HARTJE ARPS, DPAGB, APAGB, EFIAP - FOTO FUSION

Jim is a highly experienced and inspirational photographer who will ‘explore the fine line between reality, invention and trickery.’ This fine line is something that has been a feature of Jim’s photography ever since his formative years when he was creating pictorial derivative work in the darkroom. So, it’s no surprise that Jim has embraced digital photography with a passion, using Photoshop as a creative aid to his photography.

Zoom meeting - Monday 14th December

ROGER HANCE FRPS, AFIAP DPAGB BPE5* - NEW IMAGES 2020 - AND WHY I SWITCHED

Roger is an award-winning photographer who for 25 years was a confirmed Canon full frame user. Just over two years ago he sold all his Canon equipment and switched to the Olympus Micro Four Thirds System.
Roger’s talk is a mixture of subject matter - sport, natural history, portraiture, photojournalism, landscape and live music photography with pictures taken on both the Canon and Olympus systems, and it shows the advantages and disadvantages of both systems, as well as explaining how he took the images, where he took them and how to avoid some of the pitfalls that are easy to make.
