Joining the club

Derby City Photographic Club is a member of the North & East Midlands Photographic Federation (N&EMPF) and affiliated to the Photographic Alliance of Great Britain (PAGB), a registered charity.

If you are interested in joining our club, we would be delighted to give you a warm welcome. First of all come along and give us a try on a Monday evening at the Grange. (usually our meetings are held in the room through the door to the left of the entrance) - if not it will be well signposted.

You may visit three times at a cost of £4 per visit before you make up your mind if you would like to join. If you decide to go ahead we will provide you with an application form and a programme for the year. After that it's up to you how often you come, though we do advise coming regularly to get the maximum benefit from your membership.
Full membership costs £25 a year, plus £3 for each meeting attended.

Derby City Photographic Club is for everyone, from the complete beginner to the professional photographer. We have a weekly programme with a wide diversity of excellent speakers, covering an extensive range of photographic interests from landscape, nature, and portraits, through to sports photography and travel. We also hold monthly competitions for members, usually with both a "Theme" and "Open" competition.

A typical Monday evening will last just over two hours with a break in the middle, during which time members will usually chat in the bar and also make use of our excellent club library to borrow books or DVD's on various areas of photography. This is also a time maybe to book some of the equipment we have on offer to assist in monitor and printer calibration.

We are a friendly club, and the more experienced members are always happy to advise those with less experience; in addition to which we often hold workshops on various more technical aspects of photography, and photo walks whereby advice can be given in the field' (quite literally), or many times afterwards in the pub!

And of course, if this is something you enjoy, we also hold an annual weekend away - often somewhere like the Lake District or Yorkshire Dales for two days of uninterrupted photography and socialising with like minded photographers.

As a member you can:

  • Attend the events in our full and varied regular Monday programme, which includes illustrated talks by leading photographers, exhibitions, competitions and lots of opportunity to share and learn.

  • Take part in our informal workshops.

  • Learn from experienced members on various subjects such as landscape, portraiture, natural history, sport etc.

  • Borrow from our library of photographic books, CD's and user manuals all available on free loan.

  • Join our private Facebook page for discussion and updates.

  • Use our colour management equipment to assist in your monitor and printer calibration.

  • Take part in the popular Club monthly and annual digital and print competitions.

  • Showcase a selection of your photographs on the Club website.

  • Join other members for outdoor meetings, social events and the annual Club weekend away.
